In the middle of the bay of Antongil, Nosy Mangabe in a small island totally disconnected from the rest of the world. Managed by Madagascar National Park; Nosy Mangabe is a small reserve which extends on 520 ha.

This small island is called that because according to what people say, a long time ago; it was covered with mango trees which still exist in there currently.

This place is totally wild; no hotel around; no inhabitants; not even fishers on their pirogues on the lakes. Instead what you’re about to see in there is the alive fauna in total freedom and the flora in its entire splendor.

To illustrate; you can find the black and white lemurs during your visit in day and the Aye-Aye during your visit at night. And don’t also miss; the vegetation with luxuriant landscape that will take your breath away.

On the spot; you can also find the marks left by the European marines who passed there in the 17th century. For proof, on the top of the small island; you can see writing on the rock. Accessibility

Nosy Mangabe is situated in the east coast of Madagascar; at 5km from Maroantsetra and in the middle of the bay of Antongil. This site is accessible either by direct flight from Antananarivo to Maroantsetra or by following the road connecting Antananarivo – Toamasina –Maroantsetra. Once in Maroantsetra; the speed launches are on the spot for your transfer on boat.

Accommodation

As the hotels are all in the park Masoala or in Maroantsetra; the best choice is to make an excursion on the place. Or if you want to pass the night on the site; it is recommended to bring a tent or a bivouac installation.

Season of visit

The season of visit is from May to November. However in this season; it’s the rainy season with possibility of cyclone and tropical depression; so it is recommended not to navigate on sea.
